Using Gallery Show to Automatically Generate New Preset Effects
See the full gallery on Posterous Yesterday we showed one approach to automatically generating new image processing effects using active link commands in the integrated Help Browser that mutate new image operation effects at the touch of a button. Today we’ll show an alternative approach using Gallery Show features to do the same kind of thing.
Exploring the Rank MultiScale Filter via Mutating Presets
See the full gallery on Posterous Yesterday we showed off how to configure the Rank MultiScale Filter image operation effect to build an intelligent smoothing filter that smooths an image while retaining sharp edges. We mentioned in yesterday’s post that like all Studio Artist image operation effects, by adjusting their editable parameters you can dramatically change the type of visual effect processing they generate. Today we’ll show a useful technique you can use to automatically generate mutated variations of any image operation effect.
Using Add Mutation to Evolve New MSG Presets
This post continues the discussion yesterday regarding directed evolution of MSG presets using the Evolution Editor. We’ll be taking a look at Add mutation in this post. The MSG preset effect above was created by using Add mutation in the Evolution Editor to evolve yesterday’s MSG preset into a new effect.
Directed Evolution of MSG Presets
See the full gallery on Posterous The Studio Artist MSG Evolution Editor (shown above) is a cool way to generate abstract art and wild image processing effects. MSG stands for modular synthesized graphics and is Studio Artist’s modular image processing architecture. You can manually fine tune and edit MSG presets using the MSG Advanced Editor, but getting the most out of the Advanced Editor requires some knowledge of the inner workings of MSG. The MSG Evolution Editor allows you to edit or create new MSG presets just by choosing things you like and clicking on them to evolve variations. This cyclical approach of mutating variations of a specific preset you like, then choosing the mutation you like the best, and continuing the cycle of mutate-select over time is called directed evolution.
Using Gallery Show to Generate Mutated Vectorizer Effects
The image above was automatically generated using Studio Artist 4′s new Gallery Show feature. Gallery Show was originally conceived as a way for artist’s to build self-running dynamic art shows using Studio Artist that could be presented in art gallery settings. But we quickly realized that Gallery Show could be used to do much more. It’s a great way to automatically generate new abstract art and visual effects that are completely automatically generated. The example above was generated by gallery show randomly mutating the Studio Artist Vectorizer as the automatic gallery show progressed, and is just one example of a complete series of effected images created over the course of the entire gallery show run.
