Color Gradient Meta Edit Commands

The MSG Editing Commands located in the Studio Artist integrated Help Browser include a specific set of meta-edit commands you can use to automatically build various kinds of color gradients. These active link help commands are oriented at building color gradients to use in MSG presets via automatic edits made to the the MSG Advanced Editor or the Evolution Editor. But you can use additional context menu commands in the MSG Advanced Editor Gradient editing Tab area to use these automatic color gradient generating meta edit commands to build Source Area Color Gradients as well.

The MSG Editing commands are available from a link located on the main Index page in the integrated Help Browser (as shown below).

Pressing the MSG Editing Commands link brings up the main entry page into the different active link MSG editing commands (2nd gallery image above). The MSG Editing Commands entry page contains additional links that can take you to Evolve Editing , Abstract Generation effect, Source Processing effect, or MetaEdit commands.

Evolve Editing commands are associated with working with the Evolution Editor. Abstract Generation commands are associated with automatically building pre-configured MSG abstract procedural image generation effects. Source Process commands are associated with automatically building pre-configured MSG source processing effects. MetaEdit commands are associated with adding pre-configured effects to existing MSG presets, modifying MSG presets in pre-configured standard edit ways, or building color gradients or color palettes for MSG presets using automatic meta-edit commands.

The Color Gradient Meta Edit commands are located near the bottom of the MSG MetaEdit help page (as shown at the top of this post). The collection of different Color Gradient MetaEdit commands are very useful for automatically building different kinds of simple color gradients (much quicker than manually working with a color gradient editor and the color picker to build the particular gradient style).

For example, I used one of these commands in a post several days ago where I built a simple procedural animation using a Texture Synthesizer preset that color gradient maps a texture field to create a color textured image. The metaedit command quickly allowed me to build a color gradient that went from black to a random color to white. I pressed the blue metaedit command link button for the ‘Black to Rnd to White‘ metaedit command to run the meta edit on the MSG Advanced Editor color gradients. The black command link buttons run the command on the Evolution Editor preview cells.

Manually editing this automatically generated 3 color index source color gradient to adjust the middle color to be what I specifically wanted was then very easy. Here’s a link to a previous post on hand editing color gradients.

I then used the ‘Copy to Source Gradient’ context menu command to transfer the automatically generated first color gradient in the MSG Advanced Editor Gradient tab to the Source Color Gradient (3rd gallery image above). So this is how you can use the Color Gradient Meta Edit commands to automatically build Source Color Gradients.

To run a context menu command, you hold down the control key and click on an interface area on the mac (or right click the interface area on windows).
